Suggest Treatment For Chronic Tear Of Talofibular Ligament
Question: I have an ankle sprain and just had an Mri. It says in conclusion that I have a subacute avulsion of the
distal fibula.also a chronic tear of the talofibular ligament. My question is surgery the next step or will it heal on its own. I am in a boot and ice daily and have not done any exercise. this has been going on since july and i stil have some pain as well as swelling at the ankle

Well going through your entire problem since time has passed from july till now in september its almost 3 months so I dont think your surgeon will consider the option of surgery as if now because the tisues have already healed and the bones would have united in that position only . Plus considering your age I think surgery will not do much benefit now.
Conservative management is the best bet in your case and physiotherapy will be highly advisable. But your treating surgeon will be the best person to take a decision regarding this as he has seen your progress from the first stage.
