Question: I've just been told during a second ultrasound that my gallbladder has collapsed. I've had pain on and off over a year. My inflammation levels are going up. Shouldn't I have it removed?

Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!

You are reporting that you have had collapsed gallbladder.
I would like to know if you have been after meal when you have done abdominal ultrasound?

It is important because after meal normally the gallbladder is collapsed.

Othwerise it would be great if you can upload your medical reports to me, so I can check them by myself.

You are mentioning inflammation, please can you specify which test you have done and the results.
Hope it was helpful to you!

I see my own doctor tomorrow. He may not have the Hospital report yet.
This is England and the NHS, and sending you medical records is something I don't have access to. I just want a second opinion. And no, of course I didn't eat beforehand. The hospital letter says say no food for 6+ hours and only clear liquid like water. Not fizzy water either. I'm just concerned that there might be infection by now. And my own doctor tends to be a bit dismissive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

If it prescribes enlarged gallbladder than you can be concerned but collapsed gallbladder usually is used to prescribe a small one and with a small amount of bile inside.

Infection usually is associated with thickened walls of gallbladder and this is not present in your case.

On the other hand gallbladder inflammation is associated with symptoms like fever and severe upper right abdominal pain.
These are not present at your case. This is why to my opinion it is nothing to be concerned.
