Suggest Treatment For Constipation And Pain While Passing Stools
Every 3 days I let it all go but it's soft almost thing normal sized stools and it's very hard to pass with pain, messaging my legs helps. Sometimes there is blood between stools. I've been using Preparation H which helps a little. Just wondering if this might be part of hemmroids or just strick constipation. Feeling very tired after big Bowel movement.
If anyone has any good remedies please let me know.
increase fiber, fluids and activity
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Preparation H is normally used for hemorrhoids which may or may not be present.
These are worsened with constipation and normally present with bright red blood on wiping.
A swelling may also be present by the anus that may make it painful to sit during flare ups.
Constipation causes or worsens hemorrhoids but hemorrhoids do not cause constipation.
The blood that you are seeing may be due to hemorrhoids or from trauma to the anus from straining to stool.
It can also be due to more serious causes but this would be unusual at your age unless you have a family history.
It is likely just constipation but you can visit your doctor for a check up to make sure
Constipation is treated by:(1)making sure to use enough fluids, at least 8 glasses a day
Caffeine and alcohol do not because they are diuretics and cause a person to lose fluids
(2)lots of fiber- fruits , vegetables, whole grains (brown rice/pasta, oats, flax/pumpkin seeds etc)
At least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables
(3)it can be difficult to get enough fiber from foods so you may need a fiber supplement such as metamucil, benefiber or cetrucil
(4)physical activity also helps
Summary: (1) hemorrhoids associated with pain, swelling and bright red blood on wiping
(2)blood may be due to trauma from straining but should still consider seeing doctor for assessment
(3)increase fiber, fluids and activity
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
should consider assessment
Detailed Answer:
HI
If the bleeding preceded the constipation and straining then you may need to see your doctor for assessment .
There are benign ( not cancerous) conditions that can cause bleeding such as diverticular disease .
This is normally seen in older persons but can still occur in younger persons. It is essentially due to the formation of ' outpockets' in the colon that can become inflamed and bleed.
There are also benign polyps (out growths ) that may occur.
A cut or fissure in the anal region would also cause pain and bleeding.
Physical examination of the abdomen, anus, rectal examination and possibly imaging may be needed
