Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, your son had mild to moderate injury to his tongue.Tongue has very rich blood supply .So, injury to it will produce bleeding.
I had sutured many cases of tongue lacerations. In one patient, half of the tongue was cut. But, he recovered very well after suturing.
So, as the bleeding has stopped, nothing to worry.
I will answer your questions point to point.
1.He has given appropriate medicines. Apart from paracetamol, I will add anti inflammatory agent like Ibuprofen/ Aceclofenac to my patients.
2.It will take 5-7 days for him to start normal diet.
3.In future, there should be no problem.
4.There is no need to apply any gel or Ointment.
5.You should have Sterile gauze pad and cotton in the house. The main concern is bleeding. It will be reduced by pressure of the bleeding area with gauze.
6. First one is Antibiotic which prevents infection. Second one is painkiller. Mouth gargle is an antiseptic.
As there is no active bleeding, nothing to worry. It will heal fast.
I wish him good health and speedy recovery.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
