Suggest Treatment For Cyst On The Left Side Of The Clitoris
Question: Hi, I have a large (about the size of a marble) growth/cyst on the left side of my clitoral hood. It came out of nowhere. My obgyn can't see me for 4 days. The pain is intense as that area has expanded so much. Today the pain has spread to the fatty pubic area above on the left side. It seems too high up near the clitoris to be a Barth cyst. There isn't hair in that area as it's more fleshy then skin on the outer area. Any suggestions on what this is and if this spreading pain should warrant an ER visit?

A swelling near the clitoris which is sensitive and painful can be due to many reasons.The most common reasons can be-
1. Folliculitis - due to an infected hair follicle. Usually has pus inside and needs an antibiotic and anti inflammatory drug for treatment.
2. Sebaceous cyst- due to a blocked sebaceous gland. The secretions start collecting inside and becomes painful. Needs to be surgically removed if infected.
3. Genital warts- due to a viral infection. Some of the simple tests carried out by your gynaecologist will confirm the diagnosis.
A thorough examination is a must for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Meanwhile you try sitz bath, means take XXXXXXX warm water in a tub add few ml of disinfectant like savlon etc in it and sit in it so that the water touches the infected part.
You can sit for 5 to 10 min, you can repeat this 2 to 3 times a day depending on the severity of the symptoms.
It will decrease pain and hastens the healing.
Along with this you can take oral analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs like Motrin etc twice a day.
After consulting your doctor she may suggest some systemic antibiotics after examining the lesion.
