Suggest Treatment For Cyst On The Ovary And Raised Levels Of CA-125

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: Me and my wife are planning a baby. For this we consulted a gynaecologist who prescribed an Ultrasound. The ultrasound mentioned a small cyst on the left ovary. The doctor mentioned that this is no reason to worry and asked for us to wait for my wife's next MC should in case it comes. The MC came in last week of April and we were asked to go for another Ultrasound - which again showed the cyst. The doctor then asked us to get two tests done namely CA125 and CEA. CEA report was normal, however CA-125 results were abnormal. The doctor has now asked us to get a MRI done of the pelvis. Please advise if there is any reason to worry

Brief Answer:
Can be cancerous.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Your wife has a large cyst of size almost 5 cm in the left ovary. The raised levels of CA-125 are worrisome. It can be associated with ovarian cancer.
It is best to get an MRI scan done as suggested by your doctor to see the extent of spread of the cyst and to visualize the abdominal lymph nodes.
Ultrasound guided FNAC of the cyst will help in detecting the type of cyst. Proper diagnosis of the cyst is necessary before planning for a child.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
