default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: After consuming roast curry chicken noodle soup (Chinese) developed rather sharp subxiphoid pain with derceased heart rate (52), sweating, and after three hours, vomiting. It is now 7 hours later, 5 bouts of vomiting, mostly liquid (yellow-orange). The nausea is subsiding slowly, I am drinking water, but my parotid glands, and submandibular glands are moderately swollen. Afebrile.
Any ideas? The nausea comes in waves

Brief Answer:
may be due to increased salivation

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The parotid, submandibular glands are salivary glands. Vomiting can sometimes be preceded by excess salivation.
Because you have been vomiting repeatedly, there may be increased salivation which would result in increased work for these glands.

This may be contributing to the change that you are noticing but this should resolve with the vomiting.

There are meds that you can use to stop the nausea and vomiting eg dramamine or peptobismol.
When drinking you should very small amounts initially, if these are tolerated then large amounts can be used.

Probiotics may also help though these are normally particularly helpful if there is abdominal pain and/or diarrhea.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
