Brief Answer:
Diabetes drug options.

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
There are plenty of newer diabetes medicines available now a days along with old time tested medications. Metformin is the first line preferred drug in Type 2 diabetes. However, after a while metformin alone may not be enough to control diabetes and you need add on medications.

Since you are allergic to sulfonylureas, the other oral medicine options are a) Gliptins ( example : Januvia) b) SGLT-2 inhibitors ( example : Forxiga), c) Glitazones ( example: Pioglitazone) d) Bromocriptine ( less preferred).
Another option is adding a small dose basal insulin at night called as Lantus or Tresiba.

The decision to add a diabetes medicine is based on several factors like age of patient, presence or absence of associated comorbidities like heart failure, kidney failure etc.
Hence doctor need to examine you and get a full evaluation before a suitable diabetes medicine can be prescribed.
