Suggest Treatment For Diaper Rashes On The Buttocks
Question: Hello,
My 7 year-old daughter woke up this morning with very bright redness and hot skin on the surface of both butt cheeks. It is not in between the cheeks like diaper rash, but on top of the buttocks. It hurts her to sit and it had some bumps on the red area as well. I put Neosporin on her but this does not help.

Sudden appearance of red rash which is warm to touch in bum area can be due to contact dermatitis(allergy to any cloth or washing chemical). Giving oral antiallergic like cetrizine or hydroxyzine with application of steroid cream helps in such cases.
Other uncommon cause is cellulitis (skin infection). The point against cellulitis is symmetric involvement and very rapid onset. Here antibiotic treatment is needed.
Skin lesions are best diagnosed by direct examination.
So I request you to consult a pediatrician or dermatologist for evaluation and management accordingly.
