Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Ovarian Cancer
Question: I am 69, have ovarian cancer (5 yrs), am currently hospitalized with pleural effusion. They have been giving me antibiotics intraveneously for 5 days and intend to continue even though they didn't say there was bacterial infection. Now I have diarrhea. I question why they are giving me so many antibiotics. I haven't had chemo since July 2016.
Brief Answer:
Might be suspecting infectious effusion
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
It is difficult to say why they are using antibiotics, but most likely explanation seems either a bacterial pleural effusion or as prophylactic therapy (they may be considering you as immunosuppressed).
Diarrhea may be antibiotic associated. Once antibiotics may be stopped and some probiotic drugs may be taken to control the diarrhea.
Please share further details of your disease(cancer) status, so that I can guide you more specifically.
Thanks ans regards
