Question: I was diagnosed five years ago with squamous cell carcinoma of my soft palet in the mouth. Surgical removal and no chemo or radiation. I am having difficulty swallowing especially at night. Have developed a cough that sounds like someone with bronchitis but no symptons of that.

Brief Answer:
Better to get done chest x ray and barium swallow.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion you should get done
1. Chest x ray
2. Barium swallow.
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
Barium swallow is needed to rule out any obstructive pathology in esophagus.
Since you had oral cancer, possibility of metastasis to esophagus is high.
And for this you need to get done barium swallow.
Chest x ray is needed to rule out aspiration pneumonia. It is common if obstructive pathology is seen in esophagus. And it causes cough too.
So get done chest x ray also.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
