Suggest Treatment For Discolored And Swollen Toe Nail From Minor Injury
I am attaching photo of her toe here.
Please suggest.
Paracetamol or acetaminophen should help in bringing down the pain.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query carefully. I have checked the attached image.
It is apparent that there is some soft tissue injury involved. Some bleeding seems to have occurred underneath the great toe. The blood will take about 7-10 days to get resorbed and there would be some color changes occurring intermediately. Pain will be there and I would insist on giving paracetamol or acetaminophen orally as per requirement. Be sure to apply ice compress over the affected area. The swelling will gradually reduce and you need not worry about the same.
Please check whether the movements are fine. If the movements seem affected you would need to get an X-Ray done.
Feel free to write back.

What should be dosage of the above medicine and for how many days?
what is meaning of ice compress? She may not accept ice .
Please let me know the present weight of the child
Detailed Answer:
In order to suggest the dosage, I would need to know the body weight of the child.
It needs to be given only if she complains of pain. To be on the safe side you can give it thrice daily for the next couple of days, and then as per requirement.
Ice compress means the application of ice over the affected area gently. It helps in bringing down the inflammation. No problems if she resists.
Awaiting...

Dose mentioned
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
You need to give Crocin DS 250 mg syrup 5 ml per dose. Please make sure the toe stays in resting position for the time being.

thanks
Antibiotic not needed
Detailed Answer:
No, giving antibiotics would not help. I understand that the toe nail has become completely black. It can even fall off (before eventually growing again). Management is supportive and you would need to be patient.
