Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
We have been giving crocin syrup to my young kids now 5 and 9 respctively as and when they were noted be not feeling well or it appared that they were going come down with fever - i.e. the temp may have been 98 deg farhanhiet. This was even before we showed the medical practitioner. Would this have some side effects in long run. Should we continue this way or stop. If stop what alternatives
Crocin contains paracetamol as composition which in toxic to liver in over dosage. Since paracetamol is an over-the- counter (OTC) medicine, you can use it as and when required. But they do have certain limitations. Use it in only mild conditions. If there is fever for more than a day, please consult a physician before continuing the medicine. The usual prescribed dose for paracetamol in children is 10-15 mg/kg in four divided doses per day.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
