Question: My husband has been to several Clinics and a hospital over the past 3 years for dizziness and neck pain which causes him to miss work. As yet , there has never been a diagnosis . We're currently stuck with thousands of dollars in medical bills and he's still suffering daily with the same symptoms which come and go through the day.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. As your husband has already been investigated many times. Can you please provide me details of few investigations -

: MRI cervical spine
: Vestibular function test

It would be very helpful.

I am going to brief you about cause of dizziness and neck pain and will try to give you some insight.

Dizziness can be due to few reasons only

: Vestibular system of ear involved - Ear's vestibular part plays a significant role in maintaining balance. If it gets damaged, it manifests as
vertigo
dizziness
light headedness
fall while walking

It can be damged due to
: vestibulitis
: labyrinthitis
: Infection

It is investigated by
: Dynamic visual testing
; Spinal-occular reflex
: Imaging of ear - CT/X ray and MRI

: Cerebellar system - It helps in maintaining balance along with ear. Its damage manifests as
: tremors, vertigo, drunken gait, fall while walking

It can be involved due to
: Alcohol
: Some common disease like B12 deficiency
: Cerebellar tumors, abscess, trauma

Confirmation is by
:: MRI of brain
: Cerebellar function tests like dysdiadochokinesia, tremors, finger nose test

: Spine - It controls both upper and lower limbs and thus control posture, limb power, strength, co-ordination. Its involvement in neck region usually presents as vertigo/balance problem.

Cervical (neck) spine disease with neck pain and vertigo could be due to
: Cervical spondylosis - It is due to prolapse of cervical disc, degenerative changes.

Confirmation is by MRI/X ray/CT cervical spine. It will also rule out any tumour lesion in spine.

Your husband is also having neck pain with dizziness. It could be due to cervical spine involvement. Now you must have understood why i was asking for above mentioned investigations!

Kindly let me know. Then we will proceed further. Hope it will help you.

Thanks. Take care.
