Suggest Treatment For Dry Chapped Lips

Hello
I know that dry lips are pretty common in the winter, due to cold outside, and then overheated rooms, but I have been treating them for several days and they still get pretty dry. They do not peel , do not look inflamed, or swollen, there is nothing in the corner - just unpleasantly dry lips.As I am pretty anxious person, I am always afraid things may be sign of something serious. But, I always think that.
I also suffer from allergies year around.
Any advice, please?
Thank you much,
XXXXXXX
Dry and cold weather is the likely cause.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic.
-From your description I feel that dry and cold weather of winters is the likely cause
-Do you use any lip cosmetic like lip-stick or gloss? Ingredients in lipstick and toothpaste may also be to blame for your chapped lips.
-Keep yourself hydrated from within i.e take at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.
-Avoid licking your lips too much. The more you lick the more they will get dry.
-Keep them protected from sun. Use a sunscreen.
-You may use an OTC topical steroid e.g cortisone cream, twice daily for a few days. Thereafter you may use a lip balm.
-Get your thyroid levels checked.
-Nasal allergies can also be a cause of dry lips because of too much of mouth breathing.
