The bowel movements have become slow. Occurs with age.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query. It seems that in your case the peristaltic movements i.e. the movements that propel the food forward through the gastrointestinal tract as it moves from the mouth to anus, has become slow. In such a case you need to take plenty of dietary fibres in the form of green leafy vegetables and also need to back it up with fibre supplements like isabgol (psyllium husk) or senna. You also need to take regular morning walk and need to exercise daily in order to ensure proper bowel movements.
Let me know if I could help further.
Regards

Dr Saha,
Thank you very much for answering my question. For most of my adult life I've spent an abnormal amount of time on the toilet. To my rememberance no body has ever recommended roughage as a possible answer.
This evening I was 3 hours in the bathroom.Would that alter your answer at all?

Brief Answer:
Roughage is essential
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
The added fact would not alter my answer. I ensure you that roughage is the key solution that you would be looking forward to. It has to be backed up with proper exercise and morning walk.
If I had a patient like you, I would perhaps have additionally suggested him to take Prodep (fluoxetine) 20 mg once daily in the morning for at least 6 weeks. I would also have suggested him to take a course of Rifagut (rifaximin) 550mg thrice daily for 5 days. However, these are prescription medicines and you would need your doctor to write them down for you if you wish to take them.
In case you found my answer to be helpful, I would be glad if you close the thread with a positive review and a 5 star rating. Feel free to contact me back directly if you ever have any other health related query.
