Suggest Treatment For Elevated SGOT And SGPT Levels
Question: I had my routine blood test which showed a very high GGT level >700. SGOT and SGPT were also slightly elevated. Alkanine Phosphate was also elevated slightly. I do not have any physical symptoms. I would like to add that I had alcohol around 8 hours before the sample was collected. My Doctor advised USG which was normal except for some fatty liver. He has advised Metodoxil 500 and Udimarin Forte, both BD. See your advice.
Brief Answer:
Raised GGT is due to alcohol
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Raised GGT is typically seen in patients who have had alcohol prior to the test, slightly raised SGOT and SGPT can be explained with consumption of alcohol. If you USG is normal then you have nothing to worry about.
Take the medicines prescribed to you and cut down alcohol to less than a drink per day. I advise my patients to drink less than 2 drinks a week.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards

I had totally stopped alcohol for the last 15 days. I would also like to add that I had viral fever around 2 months ago and had taken paracetamols (quite high dosage). Also I had been taking alcohol twice/ thrice a week, which I have stopped completely. Do I have to worry?
Brief Answer:
two drinks per week

It is good that you have abstained from alcohol. The viral infection that you had 2 months ago and also high dose of paracetamol should not have caused raised GGT, it would have only raised SGPT or SGOT which would have gone back to normal in a couple of weeks.
I recommend that you take just two drinks per week and not more than that. Consuming more than 80g/day of alcohol leads to liver cirrhosis on the long run.
I hope I was of help
