Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Such sudden testicle enlargement can be caused by an inguinal hernia which has reached scrotum. It can be more visible when standing and less visible when lying down. Physical activity or coughing can increase the size of it.
The other possible reason of such symptom is testicle inflammation or epididymis. Back pain and lower abdominal pain along with frequent urinating is more characteristic for an infection. Fever should be also present.
I suggest you to consult urologist. Testis ultrasound should be done and urine analysis.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Do have back pain, no so much frequent urination, testicle is tender to the touch, and as mention have had similar occurrences in the past (maybe 6 over the last 10 years) but swelling has dissipated in a couple of days. Do not have any indication of a fever. Before seeing urologist is there anything I can do at this time to treat the condition? (Since it is Friday do not know how soon I can make a visit).

Well, fever is not present in every case. Please note that every person is different and so are the symptoms. Both hernia and infection can act like your swelling and recur from time to time. That is why it is hard to give exact reason of your symptoms without mentioned tests. Not knowing the reason is hard to give the solution. So urologist consult is necessary and there is not much you can do at home (unless you have antibiotics at home).
