default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: I have this weird growth on my tongue that is hard and moving around. It is flat on top and smooth and on the tip of my tongue. I bit my tongue by accident tonight and it became somewhat loosened. It has been present for several months. I just thought it was an enlarged taste bud. Now I am concerned.

It can be enlarged papilla worsened by infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

Based on the history you have shared, and the appearance of the outgrowth, it can be enlarged papilla with hint of worsening of outgrowth by superimposed bacterial or fungal infection. The bite might also have worsened the inflammation. Such bumps or outgrowth can also be caused primarily by viruses or some irritant in food and later becomes swollen due to secondary infections caused by bacteria or fungi.

Also get it looked at by either an ENT surgeon or dentist to be sure that it is nothing serious in nature.

Here are some measures which will help you.

Use XXXXXXX warm saline water gargles multiple times a day.

Avoid too hot or too cold foods or drinks.

Decrease or limmit alcohol and ciggerates if any.

Avoid too much corrosive or sour diets.

Use oral glycerine on the lesion with nystatin oral drops 3-4 times a day for 5 days to cover for aided fungal infections.

Using simple analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help with inflammation.

Using antacids like omeperazole twice daily I
in 20 mg before meals for 7 days will help to decrease cpprosiveness or stomach issues leading to such papillae.

Use of antibiotics can wait for few days but if infection persists discuss with your GP for use of metronidazole with or without co-amoxiclav.

Using gentian violet has been shown some benefits.

If issue persists despite all these measures consult an oral physician.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
