Brief Answer:
TURP can be done.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. There are two broad ways to manage an enlarged prostate. The first is to take oral medicines like flomax and finasteride. These medicines prevent the prostate from growing larger but does not shrink the prostate back to normal size. The other option is surgical. However, there is a process called TURP (trans urethral resection of prostate) wherein an endoscope is introduced into your urethra and the constricting portion of the prostate is just scraped off to resume the patency of the urethra and for resolution of the problems. This is different from traditional surgery which involves cutting open. If medicines do not suffice you can go for TURP. I do not think any better option is available.

Let me know if I could help further.

Dr Saha,

I only have the symptoms at night. I can sleep thru the night and can walk during the day but it gets symptomatic at night sitting. A self exam can usually stop this for a day. TURP is it recognized as a viable treatment ansdfrom what you said there is no bag attached?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Medical treatment should suffice. TURP does not involve urobag.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. BHP (benign hyperplasia of prostate) or prostatic enlargement symptoms are generally observed at night. It is good that it does not bother you all through. In such a case I hope medicines would suffice. TURP is a single time procedure and does not leave you with a bag.
