Suggest Treatment For Entamoeba Histolytica
I am 25y male diagnosed with entamoeba hystolitica 3 weeks back and had taken satrogyl and ornidazole for 5 days . But still burning sensation after passing motion is there with mild abdominal cramp. It happens once in a week and last for 1 hr or so and go off . Other than that I have no symptoms. Is this due to amoebiasis or it may take some time to get cured? No blood in stool test. What remedies you recommend
Expert advise/ hygienic approach would help.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query.
Entamoeba hystolytica is a protozoal parasite ,which attacks human intestines to cause the distressing colicky pain with loose motions/ constipation.
I would like to recommend followings to avoid recurrence.
* Personal/ food hygiene- The recurrence of the symptoms is a common factor in this infection. This is because of self reinfection/ infection through contaminated water or food.
- The parasite is excreted through patients faces- which can reinfect the person by feco-oral route. The self hygiene and proper cleaning of hands is important.
- To prevent reinfection by water pollution - drinking boiled water plays a vital role
- Similarly hygiene of the person who is cooking/serving is also important.
* Medical management-
In spite of treating the invasive forms of parasite , few of them still remain in loops of intestinal lumen unaffected by the drug _ to cause recurrence of the symptoms periodically & make the condition chronic. To avoid this a bit of modification in drug regime is used. ,
- To start with Metranidazole is given which acts on invasive form of parasite ( for 10 days).
- It is followed by Paramomycin or Diloxinide furoate to treat the parasite that remains in intestines & reinfects later on.( 10 days.)
* - Lacto bacillus preparation is added to get healthy intestinal flora that helps regaining intestinal health.
The suitable dosage & medicines are to be selected by treating doctor according to general condition of the patient/ drug allergies/ presence of other problems like kidney disease/ulcerations of bowels.
I would therefore advise you to consult a gastroenterologist for his expert guidance about treatment.
I am sure the methodical treatment & self efforts would eradicate the Entamoebae from your system.
Hope, I have answered your query to saisfy you. any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
Also the medicines you mentioned should be taken 10 days separately or two medicines combined for 10 days ?
Colicky pain/irritation is characteristic/ medicines to be taken separately
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the follow up query.
* Yes, the entamoeba hystolitica destroys inner lining of large intestine- to cause ulcers/ inflammation -which leads to pain in abdomen( colic.) They destroy the healthy intestinal flora, digestive enzymes too -thus hampering food digestion.
* Thus hampered food digestion & the stress of the disease process work together to cause weight loss of the patient. Your weight loss can be explained on this basis.
* The medicines I have suggested are to be taken one after another- Metranidazole to start with for 10 days , to be followed by Paramomycin OR Diloxinide furoate For 10 days.
PLEASE NOTE - Consultation of a specialist for assessing your health/ excluding certain renal pathology or severity of intestinal ulcers Is ESSENTIAL before starting the 2nd course- this will avoid adverse reactions of the drug.
Please avoid self medication.
Hope, that satisfies you. any follow up query is welcome.
If you find the answer helpful ,please rate it.
Thanks.
