Brief Answer:
It is normal in stage one of sexual excitement

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
This is Dr.Vivek and I am glad to be replying to your query once again.

Continuing with our discussion on the matter, last month I had replied to one of your queries of a similar nature. You had asked about the loss of erection with the stopping of stimulation like watching pornography and if it is the same with intercourse.

The male sexual behaviour or arousal has got 4 stages.
1. Stage One: Excitement
A man gets an erection with physical or psychological stimulation, or both. This causes more blood to flow into three spongy areas (called corpora) that run along the length of his penis. The skin is loose and XXXXXXX allowing his penis to grow. His scrotum (the bag of skin holding the testicles) becomes tighter, so his testicles are drawn up towards the body.

2. Stage Two: Plateau
The plateau phase is somewhat of an intensified version of the excitement phase. During plateau, the penis and testes continue to increase in size due to blood flow. Heart rate, muscle tension, and some involuntary body movements or contractions are also not uncommon, especially in the feet, face, and hands. This is also the time when pre-ejaculate may become visible at the opening of the urethra.

3. Orgasm & Ejaculation
Stage three is generally when orgasm and ejaculation occur. These two events are often lumped together as one, but they are actually two separate functions of the body. Orgasm can be described as a cerebral or the brain’s response to ejaculation (regardless of whether ejaculation occurs). Orgasm is also often described at the climax or peak of the sexual response cycle.

4. Stage Four: Resolution
Resolution is the phase when the body begins to return to an unexcited state. Blood begins to flow out of the penis, and erection begins to gradually subside. Muscles often begin to relax and skin returns to a non-flushed color. Resolution can be marked by feelings of drowsiness, as well as feelings of increased intimacy, relaxation, and contentment.

So when you start watching and then stop, you are still in stage one and that is the reason the penis goes back to being flaccid and with continued watching or stimulation it becomes erect again.

When one reaches the stage two or plateau then the erection will persist and your penis will not come back to normal if you stop watching pornography. On more stimulation it will proceed to stage three orgasm and ejaculation.

The duration of stages one through three varies with every one.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek

Thank you doctor. If being in stage one is normal then is that stage common for all men ??
And is being in stage 1 is enough for healthier intercourse ??

Brief Answer:
Longer stage one is better

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Every man has to go through stages one through four. Being in stage one then going to two after some time and then three (when orgasm occurs) followed by four happens in everyone. Having a longer stage one will result in a better intercourse.

Hope your query is answered.
