Suggest Treatment For Fatigue And Anemia
Could this be a different type of anemia or an underlying clue to another disease state?
XXXXXXX
B12 deficiency
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query
High MCV and high MCH can be either due to vit b12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency of hemolytic anemia
Here is how you should go about it
1. Get your Hemoglobin, retic count and peripheral smear done. If these values are normal then there is nothing to worry about. If there is low hemoglobin with high retic count then it means that there is hemolysis. ( Destruction of blood cells)
2. Since your Vit b12 is normal and your values of MCH and MCV are high it could mean that your body is not absorbing Vit b12, you can prove this by getting a biopsy of the stomach through an endoscopy. This type of anemia is known an pernicious anemia
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Vit B12 injection
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
Pernicious anemia is treated with Vit B 12 injection however the diagnosis calls for regular endoscopy and biopsy for cancerous changes of the gut mucosa. The requirement of Vit B 12 deficiency slowly comes down with time.
There is no specific treatment for pernicious anemia as of now. research is still going on to replace the deficient 'intrinsic factor' in these patients
