Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Sir,
Fecal impaction is one of the common problem encountered in Geriatric population.
Taking laxatives won't help. I would suggest you the following which you can get it done at your local area clinic
1. Retention Enema: No 16 gauge Foley's catheter is to be introduced into the rectum. inflate the foley's catheter bulb using 10 ml of distilled water. Through the exit post following is to be instilled 100 ml of Glycerine and 600 ml of Normal saline. The exit has to be closed as long as possible to be retained in the rectum. Deflate the balloon after 15-20 minutes and catheter to be removed . It will help in evacuation of stools by softening it and breaking it.
This is one of the best method i follow, disadvantage is it will require a medical professional to do this. If you have access to your local area clinic , you can get it done. Ideally twice a day for 3 consecutive days or on alternate days for 2 weeks will help in near complete evacuation of impacted stools in rectum and colon.
2. Home based technique: Sodium Phosphate enema can be given at home twice a day. It can be self administered. All you need to do is follow instructions written on it.
3. Manual removal of very hard impacted stools by Registered medical practitioner.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take Care
