Suggest Treatment For Fever, Cold, Cough And Lack Of Appetite In A Child

Question: My child is 12 months old and has developed cold and cough with off & on fever from 6-7 days. Over the period of three-four days the sneezing and coughing has increased to such an extent that he is unable to cough and is constantly crying probably out of pain. He is taking Cetzine syrup once a day, dosage 2.5ml. Apart from it Nasivion P drops in nose twice daily, dosage 1 Drop in each nose. But his cold is not subsiding. His feedings have decreased considerably as he is not taking milk. His chest on examination was clear, as per my Pediatrician. What to do to subside his cold & cough which is worsening? Also he is having running nose colourless water type but sometimes it appears that he is having dry cough as the mucous seems to subside.
Brief Answer:
Need some evaluation to rule out bacterial cause of illness
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. If the child is not showing any improvement in illness along with poor appetite and activity then it is important to rule out bacterial infection.
So, I would recommend blood tests including CBC with PS, CRP and throat swab culture. Also, go for a chest X Ray to check for pneumonia as small lesions can be easily missed on clinical auscultation of chest.
You may upload the reports for my reference so that I can help you with the best management plan.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
