Suggest Treatment For Fever With Cough, Cold And Sore Throat In A Child
My son is suffereing from fever since yesterday afternoon.
We are giving him crocin 500 mg. Fever is around 102 DF.
It seems that even after taking medicine, fever is not going down much. Also we feel like giving medicine again after 4~5 hours as fever increases.Since yesterday, crocin has been given 3~4 times
Along with this he has sore throat. Feeling throat pain while swallowing anything along with mild headache.
He is complaining of nose blockage also.
Pl suggest.
Continue giving Crocin, anti allergic and decongestant will help

Hello
Thanks for asking on this platform
Most common cause of fever with cough, cold and sore throat is some viral infection.
In viral infection fever of high grade may persist for initial 3-4 days. Here giving antipyretic like paracetamol (10-15 mg/kg/dose 6-8 hourly)helps in controlling the fever. If fever is not responding to round the clock paracetamol other antipyretic like mefenemic acid needs to be given.I suggest you to do tepid sponging as it is effective in bringing down the temperature.
Giving decongestant like phenylephrine (oral or nasal drop to relieve nasal blockage) and anti allergic like chlorpheniramine or cetrizine also provides symptomatic relief.
If fever persists for more than 3-4 days or in case of any deterioration in general condition,a physician consultation should be done to rule out any bacterial infection(to assess the need of antibiotic).
Steam inhalation and warm saline gargle are good home remedies.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more queries.

Headache complaint is also there. Pl advice
Consult a pediatrician for clinical evaluation and investigation

Thanks for follow up
As fever and other symptoms are still persisting,I would suggest you to consult a pediatrician for clinical evaluation(to check the throat for enlarged tonsils and also to rule out involvement of lower respiratory tract).
Usually fever due to viral infection starts decreasing after 3-4 days.
I would like to get some investigations like complete blood count and C reactive protein done here to rule out any bacterial infection. If these tests are suggestive of bacterial infection antibiotic may need to be given.
