Question: Hi doc
I'm 25

I have been prescribed ciprofloxacin for 4,5 times this year for pain I had in my anus considered as prostatitis.
I also had diclofenac and pain killers with antibiotic also. That is gone.

New problem I am been unwell recently and as a natural worrier make my symptoms worse

I have had flatulence on and off, followed by pain slightly on the right side from the stomach. I also have had a increase in bowel movements really worried now.

In UK time last night 2am I had two toast with a cup of tea and have literally puked them all out this morning? I am really worried now as I can't get back to my normal self as I was fairly strong.

What may be wrong?

The antibiotics was ciprofloxacin. I have asked my doctor who prescribed it and he hasn't said much.

I'm really scared also in recent years I have out on some weight and my diet is not good.

Please help I'm.not feeling normal as I have pain on and off after antibiotic have I damaged something in the process of all the antibiotic and pain killers

I am by daybsearching a lot on line and suffering from anxiety and all the symptoms

Brief Answer:
Please start probiotic intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms are quite common side effect of antibiotic. Please note that intestines surface is covered with bacteria. We call them good intestinal bacteria. The main task of this bacteria is to protect intestines against bad bacteria.
When you take an antibiotic, you simply kill good intestinal bacteria. This makes good environment for bad bacteria to cover intestines surface. When it happens, symptoms like yours start.
That is why, with every antibiotic, probiotic should be given.

To get back to normal, you should start probiotic intake. This should help in few days so most of the symptoms will be gone. If not, the next step should be Rifaximine treatment. This is a very special antibiotic which can eliminate bad bacteria.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Vomiting can be cause by anxiety and antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
This antibiotic is not like the others. It does not get to bloodstream. It works inside the intestines only. So it does not affect whole body.
In my opinion this is nothing serious for sure.
Moreover, anxiety is triggering the symptoms for sure. Brain has great impact to whole body including digestive tract. Vomiting can be caused by antibiotic and anxiety. Especially if you have also acid reflux.
Brand name for Rifaximine is Xifaxan, Xifaxanta, Targaxan.
