Suggest Treatment For Fluid In Ears

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: my ENT says I have fluid in my ears and to take amoxicillin and flonase for ten days, then come back in 3 weeks. if it hasn't cleared, I will need a procedure where he goes through the eardrum to drain fluid. It makes no sense to me to stop the meds, & wait 3 weeks?.. ie if the condition started to clear, stopping the meds & waiting three weeks could cause the stopped up ears to return, no? also my friend says "why didn't he give you a steroid shot to speed the healing?" so now i'm worried my ENT is just 'priming' me for surgery. what's the best method to heal & avoid surgery? I DO NOT want surgery. I am on day 4 of meds and there is NO improvement, especially in my right ear. I'm so discouraged

Brief Answer:
Flonase is a steroid nasal spray .

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

In my opinion , your ENT must have ask you to take amoxicillin for 10 days & Flonase (Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray) for 3 weeks . Flonase is a steroid nasal spray .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice
continue amoxicillin for 10 days &
Flonase (Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray) for 3 weeks .

Use Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray or rinse thrice daily &
antihistamine tablet at night to get relief early .

Since you don't have history of ear problem . You will get relief with medications .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.
