
Suggest Treatment For Fluid Retention In Leg, Knee And Ankle

Question: I have fluid retention in my left leg, knee and prominently in my left ankle. Advice I have been given is to raise my leg up on a chair but I cannot do this all the time !

Since youhave cardiac problems, decongested heart failire should be ruled out. Moreover, other causes like renal failure should be excluded to.
If you were my patient I would recommend to do as follows in order to find out what is causing your symptoms:
- blood work (including BUN and creatinine levels)
- Cardiac echo
- Doppler ultrasound of both legs
Meanwhile, I would recommend to do as follows:
- Reduce salt intake
- Add diuretics on your therapy
