Suggest Treatment For Foot And Ankle Rash

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: I get these red/purplish rash like spots on my feet, ankles, all the way up inside of calfs, thighs and up to just above my belly button. Also, the insides of my arms. I noticed it all over those areas a couple of months ago. It slowly went away, but left some light scarring almost. It doesn't itch. It's not raised.

I just got it again last night! Maybe a little more than before. It's an alarming amount of dots. Looks bad. But, I'm healthy, active and take no meds. I'm 50 year old male. It doesn't hurt or itch. Wouldn't even know its there if I didn't see it. Is it petechiae? It's the only thing I can find that looks similar and sounds logical . When I press on it it doesn't go clear.

I'm worried about it now since I know it's a symptom of leukemia. But I don't have any other symptoms of leukemia. I know there are other things it could be related to.

Brief Answer:
henoch schonlein purpura v/s thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the answers. I have gone through them as well to the images attached. Features are unlikely to be leukemia. Differential in your case would be henoch schonlein purpura (HSP) & thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). Diascopy is a technique used by dermatologist to confirm if its HSP or TTP. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment with a "Consultant Dermatologist". He will examine the rash and may order lab workup including Complete blood count. Management would start as soon as diagnosis is confirmed which will include short course of topical steroid therapy and may be systemic as well.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Brief Answer:
Not really but any disease may complicate if not taken care off

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the followup query. No not really BUT any disease can complicate if it is not taken care off. If its TTP then it will increase tendency of bleeding. As you mentioned that there is no family history for bleeding problems so chances are unlikely for TTP. It would be better to once visit a dermatologist. In case of HSP, simple steroid therapy will cure it and you can get back to normal life.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
