Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: Been experiencing frequent upper right back pain between shoulder blade and spine upon twisting or tensing up. Then this am, I bent to pick up the cat and a sudden severe ripping pain tore through my back in same area. I couldn't move without more ripping pain. Took muscle relaxer, pain killer. All day unable to move or breathe or sneeze without pain. Shortness of breath upon moving around or walking.

Brief Answer:
You are likely to be having muscular pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having muscular pain in the interscapular region of back. Treatment of it is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief.

I would like to know what kind of muscle relaxants have you taken?

Muscle relaxant such as thiocholchoside is helpful. Vitamin B and C help in recovery. Hot fomentation can be soothing. Local diclofenac gel application is helpful in pain relief.

You can get your chest x ray done to rule out lung related causes as you are also having shortness of breath.

You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then please don't hesitate to write to me. I will be happy to help.

Wishing you a good health.

Take care.

Thank you! I'll monitor it and see how it is by tomorrow. After using inhaler, some of the shortness of breath was alleviated, so may be the asthma causing that. Using methcarbam for muscle relaxer, 750mg.

Hi
Welcome back

After going through query and follow up query I want to say that you are having asthma, due to which you got breathlessness . Your muscles had to work more, due to which you got muscular pain. Now as your asthma is improving due to inhaler so your muscular pain is likely to improve. You are already taking analgesic and muscle relaxant. You can continue with it.
