After having a big Thanksgiving meal I woke up in the middle of the night with bad heartburn. I felt i had to burp but it was stuck in my throatAll sudden my heart started beating crazy fast, felt it was going to pop out my chest. My left side of my chest was hurting also. I was diagnozed with gastritis a few weeks ago. Took medication for 1 week, i stopped taking it because i felt better. Is this related to it?.
Brief Answer:
Histamine H2 blockers
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The symptoms you are having are all gastritis related.
Treatment of gastritis depends on the specific cause.
Acute gastritis caused by nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs or alcohol may be relieved by stopping use of those substances.
Chronic gastritis caused by H. pylori infection should be treated with antibiotics.
For H. pylori in your digestive tract, your need to take antibiotics, such as clarithromycin and amoxicillin or metronidazole to kill the bacterium. Be sure to take the full antibiotic prescription, usually for 10 to 14 days.
You also need to take acid blockers called histamine H2 blockers which reduce the amount of acid released into your digestive tract, which relieves gastritis pain and promotes healing.
I will also advise you to eat smaller, more frequent meals. If you experience frequent indigestion, try eating several small meals instead of three large ones whenever you can.
Avoid foods that irritate your stomach, especially those that are spicy, acidic, fried or fatty.
Stress may make your gastritis symptoms worse. Stress may be hard to avoid, but you can learn to cope with it. If you have trouble relaxing, consider calming activities, such as meditation, yoga or tai chi.
