Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: Hello doctor, i had history of genital candidiasis(a year back). I was cured then by flucanazole and topical sertaconazole. I got married recently. After few intercourses with my wife, i am experiencing the same symptoms of candidiasis as before. My wife got no complaints like itching, burning sensation etc. She's absolutely normal. Why am i experiencing the symptims when she's normal. Where did i get this candidiasis again. Pls tell me course of action. Pls help me out.

Brief Answer:
I suggrst you to repeat the course of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.

Candidiasis can occur de novo i.e on its own. It is not necessarily acquired sexually. It is more common in uncircumscribed males and certain factors like previous antibiotic therapy and underlying diabetes mellitus are predisposing factors, specially if it is recurrent.

I suggest you to repeat the course of oral and topical antifungals. Avoid sexual contact for a week. In case your wife also develops symptoms like itching and vaginal discharge, she should also get treated.
In addition also get your blood sugar tested.
