Question: My daughter is 9 and she said she was riding the bus when she had her head out the window and the bus hit a bad bump and she hit her head on the metal part of the top of the window on the top middle part. She said it was real hard. This was yesterday evening. Tonight she said it hurts real bad. It hurts all the time and she said she can't lay on it. Should I bring her to emergency room. She normally never complains.

Brief Answer:
Give her tylenol and Ibuprofen!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the information you have provided concerning your daughter. This pain is probably not from the brain. I understand you must be concerned about the possibility of a possible bleed in the brain but her symptoms don't suggest so.

For now, I recommend good pain medications such as Ibuprofen and Tylenol combined at doses recommended by her pharmacist. If this fails to address the pain, then I will recommend that you take her in tomorrow for more examination and maybe investigations.

Do well to advise her no to have her head out on a moving car. This is very dangerous and can cause serious damage.

I hope this helps. I wish your daughter well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
