Suggest Treatment For Headache, Nausea, Vomiting And Loose Stools

default
Posted on Mon, 25 May 2015
Question: We were in Mexico last week and I guess I contracted food poisoning form either the lettuce, mayo or tuna in a sandwich. Six hours after eating it, I have violent vomiting and diarrhea every hour for about 15 hrs, then just dry heaves when I drank water. I also suffer from IBS with constipation, bloating and nausea being the main symptoms. We returned home the beginning of last week and I have been sick all week, with headaches, temps on and off, nausea with some vomiting and loose stools abdominal pain on the right side and also higher up on the right side. Not sure what is going on....trying to keep drinking water and to get some soup down, feeling very shaky. I am a 62 year old female.

Indicate Gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
Thanks for writing in to us at hcm.

This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

Mostly is does indicate Gastroenteritis (Food Poisoning) hints more towards bacterial cause.

Kindly consult a general Physician immediately since you need to be started on oral medications like:

1. Antibiotics like a combination of Ciprofloxacin/Norfloxacin along with
Metronidazole .
2. Proton pump inhibitors like - pantoprazole or Omeprazole
3. Probiotics - Lactobacillus.
4. Intravenous Fuids if your hydration is not adequate and if there is Electrolyte
imbalance.
5. Antiemetics like Domperidone for vomiting.

Also supportive treatment required is :
1.Drinking lots of fluids.
2.Home cooked warm bland food.
3.Yoghurts.

Hope this answers your query. Don't worry .
