Suggest Treatment For Heaviness In Ears While Taking Pantoprazole

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: I feel heaviness in both ears for a couple of days. Feel like forcibly swallowing, but even that does not help in clearing the feeling. I have a severe acidity problem for which I take pantoprazole 20 mg once/ twice daily. Could the ear fullness be due to gas? Or what could be the reason?

Brief Answer:
it appears to be related to eustachian tube blockade

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
In my opinion, you might be having eustachian tube dysfunction causing heaviness or fullness in the ear. Normally, the eustachian tube connects the middle ear with the nose.

Any nasal pathology, common cold, nasal allergies, sinus infection all these can cause blocked eustachian tube. This cause negative pressure in the middle ear causing ear blockage, reduced hearing, ringing sound in the ear.

Clinical examination, nasal endoscopy, eustachian tube tests can detect the pathology.

Treatment option is decongestant nasal drops + decongestant tablet twice daily for 7 days.
Steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil in it daily twice may be helpful. Valsalva exercises will be very helpful. Either you can ask the local doctor or you can see the procedure on the YouTube. Keep chewing bubble gum most of the time. This will keep the eustachian tube open.
It is less likely to be related to your stomach issues. For this I would suggest you to avoid alcohol, spicy food, smoking if you do. Add more fibres to your diet. Eat frequent small meals instead of heavy ones. Avoid meat for few days. Continue omeprazole, you can take probiotics like sporolac or ecobion.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you. Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.

Take care.
