Suggest Treatment For Hematoma On Left Ring Finger Knuckle

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Jan 2015
Question: Hematoma on L ring finger knuckle from punching wall 12/23.
12/25 went to ER for xrays. No brake or fracture.
Went to work this week (nanny for 13mo twins).
Pain has gotten worse. Tingly feeling. Went back to ER yesterday 12/31. Xrays taken. Dr saw no sign of fracture/brake. I am left handed and very concerned. I can not close my L hand to make a fist. I've tried everything and I'm only seeing it getting worse pain wise. Should I be at work? My job is above table. What should I do? I need another opinion.
Update:
Went to urgent care. I'm being referred to an orthopedic. "Although we don't see any bony fracture, you do have significant sift tissue injury. This may include collateral ligament injury to your 4th knuckle as well as hemarthrosis of that same knuckle. This can involve prolonged recover, up to 6 weeks to full recovery."
That was what the doc said today. I would like to know your thoughts/opinion as well.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You have soft tissue injury -Rest,elevation and analgesics will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you got soft tissue injury to your hand mainly left ring finger knuckle as you got x ray twice which show no bony injury.

Following measures will be of help in recovery.

1. Rest to hand, only light work can be done.

2. Elevation of hand, keep the hand above heart level, avoid hand dependent(hanging down). It will reduce swelling.

3. Active finger and thumb movements will help in recovery and reduce swelling.

4. Analgesics such as ibuprofen reduces pain and swelling.

5. Vitamin B and C help in recovery.

I think it may take up to 2 weeks in recovery. You probably feel better after 2-3 days of this treatment .

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
