Suggest Treatment For Herpes
Oral antivirals e.g valacyclovir or acyclovir
Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us.
I am Dr. Kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
Herpes zoster presents as pain and eruption of clear fluid filled vesicles in a band or stripe like pattern usually on one side of the midline of body.
The eruption is caused by reactivation of Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), the same virus which causes chicken pox at a younger age. This virus then stays dormant in dorsal spinal root ganglia (which supplies a band of skin/dermatome on one side of midline) and may reactivate at a later age to give rise to an eruption of zoster along that dermatome.
Treatment of herpes zoster is with oral antivirals e.g Valacyclovir 1gm tab, thrice daily for a week. Topically one may use an antiseptic e.g either Mupirocin ointment or Neosporin ointment.
Herpes zoster is usually associated with pain therefore a painkiller e g tab. ibuprofen or tab. diclofenac may be required for symptomatic relief.
