Question: My Wife is taking four Blood Pressure Medications. Metoprolol 100mm, Chlorothialize 25 mg, Losartan Potassium 100mm, Lopidine Besylate 5mg. Also Levothyroxine 75mcg a thyroid drug. She suffers from sleep difficulities where she feels the need to urinate about every hour at night, and gets poor rest. She has never had a heart attack, and was never aware she had high blood pressure. She is somewhat over weight (about 180 on 5'4' frame. I don't know if this sleep disorder is caused by some of this medication but from my own circumstances I know that doctors sometimes over medicate. I have gone from (3) medications to one half of one. I don't get up at all in the night I am 91, my wife is 78. I am not trying to 2 nd guess my Doctor but I just wanted another opinion. Will look forward to your reply. XXXXXXX L. Gerlach

Brief Answer:
What are her blood pressure values? Does she snore at night?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for contacting us at healthcare magic.

I have reviewed this information fully. Though she is on Many drugs for high blood pressure, they may all be justified if her blood pressure values are still more than 140/90. If her values are less than this, there might be room to further scale down the list.

Frequent urination is certainly contributed to by chlorothiazide. At what time does she take this drug? Taking it close to bed time would only make it worse. Let her preferably take it in the early hours of the day.

Further information I will like to obtain is what the blood pressure readings are and whether she does snore at night or not.

I hope to hear back from you and promise to return with more insights and guidance as soon as you get back to me.

She takes her meds in the AM. To my knowledge she does not snore. She takes BP at home with a wrist cuff. Readings at various times in the last month 145/65, 152/60, 164/78, 136/65, 126/64. I don't know what they run in the Dr's office, but I would suspect they would run higher. We are both subject to the white coat syndrome. Mine was sometimes 20 points higher than normal after sitting in the Dr. Office waiting for the appointment.

Brief Answer:
The values vary so much. Can you keep a diary for us?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The fluctuations in her BP values are so much. I will suggest that you keep a diary with time of measurement to allow me to see at what time the fluctuations do take place so that we can talk more on steps to address that.

How is her urination? Any better?
