Suggest Treatment For High Blood Pressure
Question: Please how can I cure high blood pressure? I just started medication. It makes me dizzy and weak. Before now I used to feel weak and tired easily. What do you think is the problem?
Brief Answer:
Need more details
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
From the details that you have provided, three probable causes come to my mind. One is low blood pressure, second is orthostatic hypotension in which you get dizziness while standing up or it can be a side effect of medication.
Thus I need more details about your symptoms. What was your blood pressure when you were prescribed medicine? What is your blood pressure now? Does your dizziness happen while standing up? Which medicine you are taking?
Please provide me these details or any other details that you feel relevant. Then only I will be able to narrow down the diagnosis.

Orthostatic hypotension
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
You probably have orthostatic hypotension. It can be easily diagnosed by a doctor by measuring your BP in lying down and then immediately after sitting up positions. If there is a difference of more than 20 mm Hg systolic BP, it is orthostatic hypotension.
Esidrex is hydrochlorothiazide and is most commonly associated with orthostatic hypotension. Zestril is lisinopril comes after hydrochlorothiazide as causative of orthostatic hypotenison.
Now your blood pressure was not very high when BP medicine was started. I think you will do just fine on a single medication. You can continue Zestril and discontinue esidrex after consultation with your treating doctor. Also take gatorade (or lime water with some salt) if you feel dizzy.
Hope it helps.

Thank you so much. I skip taking these drugs some days. I also have resumed my exercises just to discontinue these drugs. I also take TREVO. I feel a lot better now. Please can intensive exercise cause high BP? It appears mines just started worsened last year after I got into intensive exercise.
Brief Answer:
You need to exercise
Detailed Answer:
Hi
You need to regularly monitor your blood pressure. It should stay within control.
You also need to find a cause for high blood pressure. You should get some blood tests done. Sometimes lipid profile is abnormal and can be controlled with diet. Once the diet is controlled blood pressure also starts staying normal.
Avoiding high calorie foods like milk products (cheese, butter, sweets, chocolates, cream, icecreams etc). Avoid salty, sugary and oily foods. Drink cleaner water.
Exercise is a must but it must be done in moderation. Do not go beyond your stamina. Do not overexert at any single exercise. While exercising blood pressure may go high, but on long term it causes a decrease in blood pressure. Athletes are known to have low blood pressures, which is ok. Yoga and meditation are also known to reduce blood pressure.
I cannot undermine the importance of medicines in controlling high blood pressure. If your blood pressure goes high, take your medicine.

Also most times I feel feverish. Can high blood also cause this?
Brief Answer:
No high BP does not cause it
Detailed Answer:
Hi
High blood pressure does not cause feverish feeling.
There must be another reason for it. Do you have any other symptoms? The cause will show up in tests.

Good morning Dr. Thank you for all the answers you have provided. I have two questions.
1. My blood pressure measured 127/77mmHg and pulse 85. Please can I lower the pulse?
2. A friend told me that he experiences itching on his legs once he is done with exercises like running. What could cause this?

Brief Answer:
Your BP and pulse is ok
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Your blood pressure is very reassuring (Im presuming its without medicines).
Pulse is also normal. It is little on higher level...can be due to the feverish feeling you were having. It is not a disease and would get better as you continue exercising.
Itching on legs after exercise can be due to sweat, due to allergy from something (maybe dust) or from insect bites. Washing off the dust should help. If itching is bad, he can take tab cetirizine.
Hope it helps.

Please I feel feverish and have body pains when my BP begins to rise. What could cause this? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Some infection or inflammation
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Body pains during high blood pressure are known to occur. Fever in high blood pressure points towards some infection or inflammation. It is better that you record the bp readings and body temperature readings somewhere. Infection can cause blood pressure to rise. Thus you need to bring your immunity up, while you the find the cause of high blood pressure.
As suggested by me earlier, please go for routine blood tests for high blood pressure. It will make the cause more clear.
In the meanwhile take medicines for high blood pressure, continue with the lifestyle changes including exercise, diet (DASH diet - more of fruits and vegetables, low salt, sugar, oil, hygienic home made food, pure drinking water). These changes will make you feel better and improve your immunity as well.
Hope it helps.

Thank you. What kind of infection can cause high blood pressure?
Brief Answer:
Can be any infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Any infection that is causing systemic symptoms like fever etc, has the potential to raise the blood pressure.
Some infections tend to affect the kidney function and cause high blood pressure. Candida (fungal infection) is one such infection that can affect the kidneys. There are many more and may not always be treatable, bacterial infections.

Thank you Dr. Your answers are very helpful. Please what are the causes of these infections?
Brief Answer:
Cause is specific for each pathogen
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
There are four types of germs (pathogens) - bacteria, virus, fungi and parasites.
Each germ is caused in a particular way. The usual causes being low immunity, altered normal flora (due to stress, antibiotic use, etc), direct contact (skin, sexual, etc) with an infected person (or animal etc), inhalation from air, ingestion of contaminated food and water, etc. Sometimes two or more factors may be playing a role.
For example, you are under some stress, some rash appears, you take antibiotics and then candida starts manifesting. Candida is part of normal flora. Antibiotics killed the healthy bacteria (of normal flora) and the otherwise healthy candida start overgrowing. We usually aim to reduce the candida and not completely eliminate it.
This was just one example.
