Suggest Treatment For Hip Pain

Posted on Fri, 7 Aug 2015
Question: I have been having pain in my hip, especially when first standing up. This has been going on for about 4 months now. I have never had pain before. Now I also have some in my knee, making it hard to go up stairs. I have never had back pain, but I can feel a slight pain there sometimes. Do I need to go have it checked out?

Brief Answer:
It can be due to osteoarthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely osteoarthritis. Examination by an orthopedician and x rays of hip and knee will be helpful to rule out this.

Over the counter pain killers like ibuprofen (motrin) will be helpful for pain management. Physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercise will be helpful also. If you are having excess weight then losing some weight will be helpful also.
Interarticular cortcosteoid injections will be helpful if pain is more. Injections like alflutop is also helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation.

Only in late stages of osteoarthritis joint replacement is needed.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

What different symptoms would bone cancer have? Is there any possibility that it might be that?

Brief Answer:
Explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Initially bone cancer won't have any symptoms other than localized pain. Later on it can cause extensive pain due to spread to nerves. It can also cause weight loss, generalized weakness, malaise and spread to other areas like lungs.

Taking a x ray will be helpful to rule out that. We can't say that there is no possibility. So it is better to have a x ray after consulting an orthopedician.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if any thing not clear.
Thanks.
