Brief Answer:
Bisphosphonates can help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Treatment of hyperparathyroidism depends on the cause of hyperparathyroidism.
It can be due to enlargement of all parathyroid glands or parathyroid malignancy.
Parathyroid scan will help to know the cause of hyperthyroidism.
Surgery is the mainstay of treatment.
However, the elevated calcium levels in the meanwhile can be managed by a group of drugs called bisphosphonates.
Bisphosphonates do not have any effect on the diseases of parathyroid, however, it causes only symptomatic effect.
You need to consult your treating physician for opinion and prescription of the drug.
Thanks and take care

It looks like Bisphosphonates are used to treat osteoporosis. Why would someone with an elevated calcium level need a drug that normally treats someone with calcium deficiency? Seems oxymoronic but then again, I'm no doctor.
Brief Answer:
Bisphosphonates have palliative effect only
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Bisphosphonates are used for osteoporosis.
Its role in hyperparathyroidism is to prevent resorption of excessive calcium from bone and hence elevated levels of blood calcium levels.
The role of bisphosphonates is only palliative.
Surgical excision of the parathyroid glands is definitive treatment.
Thanks and take care
