Question: Hello I have a flap of skin sticking out on the bottom of my tongue that feels like a cut but I'm not sure if it's a herpes blister or something else as I have no history of cold sores and if it's caused by something I ate. Very worried about it

Brief Answer:
Inflammatory hyperplasia, no need of any treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the sole tissue tag in the ventral aspect of tongue is concerned, I have two possibilities. I can be a tissue tag or inflammatory hyperplasia secondary to chronic irritation by the teeth. The other possible cause can be an inflamed minor salivary gland. It is not a herpes viral infection.

The tag will not harm you. However it would be worthwhile to see an oral physician for examination to confirm the possibility. Until you see the doctor, keep an eye on it. If you find there is any changes in size of the lesion, then get it surgically removed.
I hope I have answered your query. if you have any queries reply me. Take care

Thanks so much for your quick reply and detailed explanation. I also have a bit of an itchy throat and my tongue feels sore and slightly has a bitter taste in that particular area. I figure it could also be made worse by possibly having allergies and grinding. So, just to make sure I understand, from the pictures I included, it didn't look like herpes or anything ser

Brief Answer:
Throat infection. Antibiotics saline gargling

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.
The itchiness and soreness can be because of the bacterial infection of the throat. The altered taste can be because of secondary infection. If there is any infection it has to be treated accordingly. Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin twice daily (if you are not allergic ). Do saline gargling twice daily.
I hope I have answered your query
Take care.
