Question: Denied hysterectomy by insurance day before surgery. Devastating. Dr appealed and fighting for me. Had sonogram, transvaginal sonogram, biopsy, d&c, hysterscopy. Bleeding and clotting for weeks at a time, few day break and starts again. Thicking of uterus, Low blood count and potassium dropped to 290. Tried of being so miserable and exhausted all the time. Had two natural childbirths and tubal at age 25 now at 46 and ready to end the pain and misery and try to return to some type of normal. A few hours of work or otherwise and just so exhausted can't function and to top it off have stem cell deficiency in eyes which makes me suffer further because I can't read anything easily or concentrate. Insurance company wants me to go on hormones and I am terrified as my mother at 50 had heart attack on onset of hormone therapy. No other female family to base history on with exception of paternal grandmother had breast cancer all others died before 60 mostly of heart related issues. All the prep for surgery emotionally and physically and now unfairly denied at such short notice.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is best treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The irregular and heavy bleeding that you are having along with weakness and thick endometrium can be best treated surgically.
The hormonal therapy can only give you relief for short term. Till the time you are permitted for surgical treatment you can consider having endometrial ablation to reduce the amount of bleeding.
Other options are non hormonal pills like Centchroman that will reduce the bleeding considerably without increasing your risk of cardiac problems and cancers. You can discuss about these options with your gynecologist and choose the best treatment for you.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
