Suggest Treatment For Itching On Inner Labia

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: I noticed an itch on inner labia on on side. Looked and was a relatively flat irregular shaped area-.75 inch long, or so. Had a yellow top. Day or two later yellow went to reddish yellow, then pink. Is not very visible now, and burns slightly when I urinate. I had unprotected vaginal and oral sex, and with same person later, used a condom with spermicide and something to protect against STDs. I'm also going thru menopause. My partner swears he has nothing, and hasn't cheated, but could this be an STD, and if so, what might it be? Not blistery looking like herpes, not warty looking either. No discharge or odd smell. Thank you

Brief Answer:
it might be a infective ulcer

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.

In my opinion by your description it seems to be a ulcer.

Many conditions present as genital ulcers like:-
1)Traumatic ulcer-It can be known if you were hurt during the intercourse or any other cause.
For this local antibiotic ointment can be applied and brufen to relieve pain.

2)Infective ulcers like-
a)Tuberculous ulcer-it presents with yellow discharge at the base.It heals with scar formation at one end.But here mostly there will be lung infection by Tuberculosis in 50%.
b)syphilitic ulcer
c)granuloma inguinale-it is also a STD

3)Malignant ulcers-But in your case it might not be a possibility because here ulcers will be non healing.
As the ulcer you got is almost healing now malignancy can be ruled out.

Iam not diagnosing any condition but just giving you the information by considering your history.

So I suggest you to see a gynaecologist as you might need any investigations to rule out the cause after examining the lesion like
1)Microscopic examination of lesion scrapings.
2)VDRL test for syphilis

Mostly it might be a infective lesion as you have itching and pain.

Apply betadine ointment and take brufen or paracetamol for pain. And get evaluated further to rule out any infective cause.

Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to ask any more queries.

So, I'm looking at it now, with a very bright light, and is still yellow on top, and a little more raised. Can feel it a little bit, but no itch or burn (unless I urinate). No odd smell or discharge. Do you still think it's fairly likely to be the ulcer you mentioned at the beginning? I will see a Dr on Tuesday, but want an idea of what I may have, which I really hope is the ulcer you mentioned. Can you please let me know your opinion? Also, is about .50 inches-looks amoeba shaped.
Thank you.

One more note-with naked eye looks pinkish, and not white like before. But with blinding light, looks yellow...but no longer white.

Brief Answer:
it might be in the process of healing

Detailed Answer:
Dear madam, I got your query.

In my opinion, it might be of infective origin.

The size of lesion has decreased and pinkish colour denotes that it might be in the process of healing.

The yellow colour on top might be due to pus and you might need a course of antibiotics.

You might need a physical examination and biopsy to find the exact diagnosis.

Burning during urination might be because the ulcer is there in urethral area.

Biopsy helps to rule out the different causes
of ulcer like Tuberculous, syphilis ,any other STD or malignancy.

Dont worry, it doesn't appear to be malignant from your history as it is healing and it has no discharge.

Mostly it might be infective and apt treatment after investigations might cure the condition.

Till you see the doctor you can continue the neosporine ointment.
And loose undergarments to prevent pressure on the lesion.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Good luck...Dr.srilatha
