Suggest Treatment For Itchy Allergic Skin Rash After Taking Flagyl
Question: My 6yo daughter was in the hospital for iv antibiotics after she developed a parotid gland infection. She is allergic to penicillin, cephalosporin, and clindamycin. They gave her Flagyl, vancomycin, and aztreonam over five days. It has been two weeks since her discharge, and she has severe itching in her iv sites - all 4 of them. There is a hive like bump at the site, and small goosebump-like rash around the areas. How can I help ease the itch?
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question. I'm sorry your daughter had to spend time in the hospital. The reaction you are describing does not sound too severe. I recommend an appropriate dose benadryl which can be given every 6 hours if needed. This should help the itchiness. However, if this doesn't work, for the itchiness hi continue for more than 48 hours even after treatment, I recommend consulting with your doctor.
