Suggest Treatment For Itchy And Flaky Scalp And Hairloss
Two of my meds have been increased. Would either of them contribute to this problem?
They are Rosuvastatin and Losartan Potassium.
losartan can very rarely cause hair loss
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Losartan can very rarely cause hair loss but it is not associated with the itching and flaky scalp that you mentioned.
Rouvastatin is not known to cause these effects.
It is possible that the symptoms are due to seborrheic dermatitis. This condition can cause hair loss along with itching, flakes.
It is thought to be related to a type of yeast or the body's abnormal response to this yeast.
It is treated as follows: (1) frequent shampoos or a longer period of lathering with certain shampoos such as nizoral shampoo, ciclopirox
Nizoral shampoo- shampoo and leave hair for 3 to 5 mins before rinsing, use twice weekly for 2 to 4 weeks then once a week after this.
This also applies to the ciclopirox shampoo
Alternatively any shampoos with selenium or salicylic acid, tar or zinc can be used.
The types can be alternated
(2)in some cases, the use of a mild steroid cream may be appropriate for a short period of time eg hydrocortisone
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
