Suggest Treatment For Knee Dislocation

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: My knee got displaced twice 4 years back. I started taking care of it later. But again this month it was about to get displaced when I was climbing down the stairs and I feel my knee has got weak, as I can feel the rough movement when I climb stairs. I was asked to get it operated, but I rather prefer to go for some exercises than operation. I was told that the fibers which support my knee have got weak because of which it got displayed. Could you please suggest me some exercises to strengthen my knee fibers and the precautions to be taken.

Brief Answer:
MRI of knee is recommended if not done

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Life style modifications like avoiding sitting cross legged; squatting will delay the onset of osteoarthritis and chances of knee dislocation. Exercises like quadriceps and hamstring muscle strengthening, swimming; straight leg rising will help in improving the muscle strength around the knee and will help in decreasing the chances of dislocation.
Having said that one should look for the basic cause of Instability (dislocation). Although our knee is unstable anatomically and is made stable by ligaments. The most important is cruciate ligament, to assess its integrity MRI is the recommended test. If not done earlier then get it done.

In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
