Suggest Treatment For Lazy Colon

default
Posted on Thu, 10 Apr 2014
Question: Hi, I have had a lazy colon most of my life (when I was younger I was afraid to tell my parents and it leaked out and I went up to 6 months without a proper bowel movement). I've had a lot of sinus infections and sore throats as a child, and an occasional bronchitis. Last spring I took an herbal sleep aid, Knock-out. stayed up all night and threw up what looked to be a lot tittle bits of tissue, almost like skin, as well as some dark stuff. It was a ridiculous amount of tissue looking stuff though. Then the other night, I combined a castor oil pack with dulcolax, and a had little reddish brown inch long almost dead worm looking things as well as a couple a pieces of tissue looking stuff in with my bowel movement. I experienced some discomfort before this. Also I took knockout once more recently, and it caused nosebleeds for a few days, you aren't supposed to take it if you have an autoimmune disorder. What could it be?

Brief Answer: Look for platelet count Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear MS Taking knockout may sometimes precipitate nasal bleeding. Kindly get a complete blood count done, if the platelet count are normal then there seems to be no cause for concern. Coming to issue of your constipation. Chronic constipation in an adult is likely to be due to following 1. Low fibre diet 2. Decreased intake of water 3. Presence of lesion of anus and rectum 4. Possibility of Hirschspungs disease 5. Internal sphincter achalasia Before embarking on blind empirical treatment its advisable to undergo thorough evaluation by General Surgeon/Gastroenterlogist I would suggest you the following 1. Plenty of oral fluids: 2-3 liter of water a day 2. High fibre diet: 2 servings of vegetable salad and fruits everyday 3. Oral Laxatives In case you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take Care Best Regards Dr T Shobha MBBS,MD

Hi, Thank you for replying. I will ask my doctor about the blood count. My constipation has not been nearly as bad as it used to be since I took chlorella for a while. I was wondering if you knew what huge amount of bits of yellowish tissue or skin like pale almost slices more than chunks that had darker parts as well were from my vomit and also a little in with my stools. I've never seen them before the past year.

Brief Answer: Tissue could be due to Castor Oil Detailed Answer: Hi Greetings Use of castor oil which acts as irritant purgation could sometimes cause sloughing of rectal and colonic mucosa which is expelled as tissue like material. Its not recommended to use Castor oil as enema. I have seen couple of cases which have ended with perforation of colon due to injudicious use of colon. I hope I have cleared your doubt Take Care Regards Dr Shobha Deepak
