Suggest Treatment For Loose Motions
Question: Hello Doctor, Our baby is 3.5 months old, She is having loose motion for the past five days (Yellowish/ Greenish & watery). we are exclusively beast feeding the baby and we are giving 0.5ml of "Zinc dry powder for suspension". Our doctor told us to wait for 2 to 3 days, but now its fifth day and still she has loose motion. We are worried, please let us know when can we expect loose motion to stop. Baby is active and normal. No other issues like fever, vomiting etc

Thanks for writing to us.
Loosestools are usually as a result of viral infection at this age .
Usually only Oral rehydration solution like Rebalanz is recommended to be given in sips every 15min. Continue breast feeding.
Zinc drops can be given for 10 days to help in recovery.
Ensure your baby passes atleast 6times urine in a day.
Loose stools may take even a week to settle. there is no anti viral treatment available.
If baby becomes dull, with low urine output , seek immediate medical attention.
Otherwise you can safely continue present treatment

Our baby is still having loose stools greenish colour about six to seven times a day. Her urine output is normal and she is active. It started last Monday (18th Aug) We are EBF. Is there any diet restrictions for mom which can help the baby recover faster? And what can be the signs of improvements? When should we expect the loose motion to stop, since it is already 7 days?
